Junior Firefighting program is a voluntary program under the direct supervision of OHFR personnel. It is designed for youth, 15-17 years of age, who are interested in learning about a career in the fire service.
This fun, hands-on program provides participants with opportunities to increase their self-confidence and develop leadership skills through community-related activities. Any person of good moral character, physically sound, and who has reached between the ages of 15 – 17 may apply for a junior membership. All junior members shall adhere to the same general policies, rules, and regulations as the regular member.
Junior members shall remain in school and maintain a C average or above and or have a high school diploma equivalent.
Each Junior will receive fire safety gear, books, training props, and material needed.
Training will include; CPR/First Aid, firefighting skills, hose lay evolutions, forcible entry techniques, fire behavior, wildland firefighting procedures, proper use of firefighting tools and equipment, breathing apparatus use, and other related subjects.
Junior members shall have all the rights of firefighters upon reaching the age of 18 and completion of the new member orientation process.
