**Oak Hill Fire and Rescue Protection Association Earns New District Rating Following Inspection**
Morganton, NC — January 26, 2024 — Oak Hill Fire and Rescue Protection Association, Inc. has achieved a new district rating following a comprehensive inspection conducted by officials from the State Fire Marshal's Office. State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor announced the updated rating, effective July 1, 2024, reflecting the association's commitment to maintaining high standards of fire protection and emergency response. This new rating replaces the former classification of Class 5/9E, reflecting the association's enhanced capabilities and readiness to respond to emergencies within its district.
The inspection, conducted as part of the North Carolina Response Rating System (NCRRS), evaluated various aspects of Oak Hill Fire and Rescue Protection Association, Inc.'s operations, including staffing levels, equipment sufficiency, maintenance protocols, communication capabilities, and water source availability. The association's exemplary performance resulted in a new rating of 4/9E, signifying its enhanced readiness to respond to fires within its district.
"We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Chief Jimmy Winters Jr. and the dedicated team at Oak Hill Fire and Rescue Protection Association, Inc. for their commendable performance," stated State Fire Marshal Brian Taylor. "The residents of Oak Hill Fire District can rest assured knowing that they are protected by a highly capable team of firefighters, dedicated to safeguarding lives and property during emergencies."
The NCRRS rating system, ranging from one (highest) to 10 (not recognized as a certified fire department by the state), plays a crucial role in assessing the preparedness of fire departments across North Carolina. Higher ratings not only indicate better-equipped departments but also result in lower homeowners insurance rates within the respective fire district.
OSFM inspections, mandated by state law for departments serving districts with 100,000 people or fewer, contribute significantly to enhancing the overall effectiveness of fire services in North Carolina. These assessments evaluate equipment, training, and emergency response capabilities, ensuring that fire departments are well-prepared to address any crisis situation.
